The short version. ViceMaps has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. We, the developer, do not run any server that receives your location or searches, and we never sell or share your data for advertising. To draw maps, find places and plan routes, the app sends the minimum needed information directly from your phone to the public map services listed below.
ViceMaps is developed by ProWin Apps ("we", "us"). You can contact us at pravincoder2007@gmail.com.
With your permission, ViceMaps uses your device's precise and approximate location to show where you are, give turn-by-turn directions and voice guidance, recalculate your route, show the road you are on, and find places near you. Location is used while the app is open, and while a navigation session is running, including on your car's display through Android Auto. During navigation, the app shows a notification so you always know it is active.
The text you type into search, and the destination you choose, are used to find places and calculate a route.
This information never leaves your device except as described in the next section, and it is not sent to us.
ViceMaps is built on open map services. When you use a feature, your phone connects directly to the service below over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Like any website, these services receive your IP address and the request itself, and they handle it under their own privacy policies.
| Service | Used for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| OpenFreeMap | Map tiles (roads, buildings, places) | The map areas you view |
| OSRM demo server and FOSSGIS routing | Route calculation and rerouting | Your current location, heading and destination |
| Photon by komoot | Place search and live suggestions | Your search text and current location, used to rank nearby results |
| Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) | Backup place search | Your search text and the area around you |
| Public Overpass API servers (overpass-api.de, overpass.kumi.systems, maps.mail.ru) | Nearby categories such as food, fuel and parking | The category and your current location |
Voice directions are spoken by the text-to-speech engine installed on your phone. When you connect to your car, ViceMaps displays through Google's Android Auto, which is governed by Google's privacy policy.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (precise and approximate) | Show your position, navigate and find nearby places |
| Notifications | Show the ongoing navigation notification |
| Foreground service (location) | Keep navigation and voice guidance running while you drive |
| Internet | Download maps, search places and calculate routes |
| Android Auto navigation | Display the map and directions on your car's screen |
You can turn off location access at any time in your phone's settings. Navigation will not work without it.
Everything ViceMaps stores lives on your phone and stays until you delete it. See Delete Your Data for step-by-step instructions. Because we do not hold your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
ViceMaps is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Always follow traffic laws and keep your attention on the road. Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors and may be incomplete or out of date.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
